Taylor Swift’s New Single Surges To — And Debuts At — No. 1
Taylor Swift sends "Opalite" to No. 1 on the Official Singles and Official Singles Sales charts in the U.K. while the song debuts atop several other rankings.

In only a few weeks, Taylor Swift's most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl, will turn six months old. In the half-year since the singer-songwriter dropped her blockbuster, the set has remained a top performer across all important metrics, as it was largely buoyed by lead single, "The Fate of Ophelia." That tune, which wasn't released until The Life of a Showgirl became available in full, started to fall on charts all around the world weeks ago, and ever the shrewd businesswoman, Swift moved on to the set's next promotional cut.

Taylor Swift Tops the U.K. Singles Chart With "Opalite"

Swift jumps to No. 1 with "Opalite" on both the Official Singles and Official Singles Sales charts. The first of those two tallies is built using a consumption-based methodology, while the latter looks only at the top-selling tracks in the nation. In both instances, "Opalite" sat outside the top 10 just last frame, and now it runs the show.

How Many No. 1 Songs Has Taylor Swift Charted In The U.K.?

Swift earns her sixth leader on the Official Singles Sales chart as "Opalite" ascends. She has previously dominated with all of the following tracks:

All of those tunes, except for "Is It Over Now (Taylor's Version)," have also landed atop the Official Singles Sales ranking at some point in the past.

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl Stands Apart From Her Albums

Now that "Opalite" has reached the peak position on the Official Singles chart several months into its time on the tally, The Life of a Showgirl becomes Swift’s first album to score multiple No. 1s on the main songs ranking in the U.K. Her previous winners all came from different full-lengths, and though she came close to collecting several champions with a handful of her most successful projects, she never managed to do so until now.

Taylor Swift Debuts "Opalite" At No. 1 On Multiple Rankings

At the same time that "Opalite" becomes the most consumed song in the U.K., the tune debuts atop two sales rankings. The hit launches at No. 1 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts, and the purchases of the latest The Life of a Showgirl behemoth on wax likely play a major role in making it the most-heard cut in the nation.

Taylor Swift Extends Her Winning Streak With "Opalite"

On both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts, "Opalite" becomes Swift's fifth career champion. She has previously dominated with all of the following tracks:

  • “Teardrops on My Guitar”
  • “The Lakes”
  • “Fortnight” with Post Malone
  • “The Fate of Ophelia”
  • “Opalite”

Taylor Swift Misses Another No. 1 With "Opalite"

"Opalite" nearly tops one additional ranking in the U.K., but it is held back from ruling and adding to Swift's ever-expanding collection of leaders by just one space. On the Official Singles Download chart, "Opalite" jumps from No. 11 to No. 2.

That's a new high point for the singer-songwriter's focus track, which previously topped out in fifth place. This week, only "Familiar Faces" by Two Connors, which launches in the highest position possible, keeps Swift from the summit.
