Spider-Man has worn a few different costumes over the years, though some have stood out for their advanced tech developments and unique designs.

The last few runs of The Amazing Spider-Man have taken Peter Parker in a bold new direction. After losing his closest allies, Spider-Man started working closely with the seemingly reformed Norman Osborn. Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr. explored Spider-Man’s new connection to Osborn with an impressive new costume filled with advanced Oscorp technology. He's since moved on to a more magical costume provided by Doctor Doom, Sorcerer Supreme, which is equally impressive.

While Peter Parker sewed together his iconic original costume, he has made a few incredible improvements over the years. His advanced scientific intellect has led to the creation of a few of Spider-Man’s most powerful suits. Spider-Man's adventures have also introduced a couple of unique costumes into his life, further impressing fans over the years.

In the new Ultimate Universe created by the Maker, Peter Parker was never bitten by the radioactive spider. Instead, he raised a beautiful family with Mary Jane Watson. However, Tony Stark/Iron Lad arrived and gave him the choice to become Spider-Man and accept his destiny as a hero. Iron Lad also left him an advanced Picotech stealth suit based on his father's design, along with the radioactive spider to give him powers.

The Pico suit could respond to Parker's thoughts and contain web-shooter technology within the suit's nanite technology. Peter's daughter helped him design a new version of the classic red and blue suit, though he initially wore a solid black suit that stood out to fans. The PICO suit is incredibly advanced, and it has an AI that mapped itself on Spider-Man's brain waves, which could potentially bring about the birth of an all-new Ultimate Venom.

Norman Osborn appeared to turn over a new leaf after encountering Sin-Eater, who freed him from his past sins. He abandoned his villainous role as the Green Goblin for his new heroic identity as the Gold Goblin. He also began working closely with his oldest enemy in his attempts to reform from his past actions. This led to the design of Spider-Man’s new Goblin-influenced suit.

His new suit mostly followed the design of his classic red and blue costume. The glider pack, which functioned as a rocket pack and goblin glider, was the most impressive addition to the costume. His new suit featured a glowing yellow effect on the spider insignia and the mask, which also used a new digital display. The costume also included egg bombs filled with spider nanobots.

13 Spider-Man's Electro-Proof Suit Was a Work-in-Progress

Spider-Man eventually became known for his ability to design new suits that were tailor-made to fight his most powerful enemies. However, it all started when he had to cover his hands with webbing to lay a punch on the deadly Electro. He continued to improve his methods of dealing with Electro over the years until he finally landed on a new costume design to help.

Spider-Man's Electro-Proof suit was made of hard rubber and insulated to protect him from Electro's increased powers at the time. He added additional padding and devices to help redistribute the electricity when he was hit by blasts, protecting him from the life-threatening shocks. Spider-Man made quick work of Electro in this suit, one of his earliest examples of suits he designed to deal with specific villains.

12 The MK II Spider-Armor Was Completely Bulletproof

Spider-Man never had any trouble dodging bullets with his spider-sense, though he sacrificed it to negate Alistair Smythe's own insect-sense in battle. When the mass murder known as Massacre appeared, Spider-Man knew he needed an edge to deal with the heavily-armed villain. Thankfully, his position at Horizon Labs during the Big Time era gave him the resources to create a new version of the Spider-Armor he first created in the '90s.

Spider-Man's bulletproof suit featured extra protection around his neck and joints so he could remain flexible and covered. The Spider-Armor MK II even featured upgraded web-shooters complete with magnetic webbing, so that Spider-Man could use it to disable traps or block frequencies. Spider-Man retired the bulletproof costume after capturing Massacre and regaining his spider-sense, though it remains one of his most durable suits ever.

11 The MK III Spider-Armor Had Offensive Capabilities

Doctor Octopus assembled one of the best Sinister Six teams during the “Ends of the Earth” storyline. He planned to increase the greenhouse effect on Earth to kill humanity before he died himself. Spider-Man used the resources available at Horizon Labs to create a powerful new suit of armor. It was designed to take on the Sinister Six and stop Doc Ock.

The MK III Spider-Armor featured heavy, durable plating, jet boots, and upgraded web-shooters. The armor protected him from strong members like The Rhino. His helmet could detect Chameleon through his disguises and see through Mysterio’s illusions. The MK III armor featured tech that could also neutralize the abilities of other members like Sandman and Electro.

After years of physical injuries at the hands of more powerful heroes, Doctor Octopus faced his death with a new plan. He managed to implant his mind into Spider-Man’s body, while Peter Parker died in Otto Octavius’ body. However, Parker influenced Octavius’ mind with his own moral beliefs. Doc Ock decided to outdo his old enemy and become the Superior Spider-Man.

He developed several costumes, though his final suit was the most advanced. He abandoned Peter Parker’s design and replaced it with a mostly black bodysuit with a webbed spider detail on the torso. Doctor Octopus’ tech bled into the suit as it included four additional arms. He also designed new gauntlets with sharp talons that he could further customize to deal with his enemies.

9 Black Panther Created Miles Morales' Vibranium Suit

media_23382

During Marvel's Blood Hunt event, a number of heroes were infected as Varnae attempted to extend his rule across the planet. Miles Morales was one of those heroes who was infected, as was Black Panther. And while some heroes reverted to normal after the Blood Hunt event, Miles did not. Thankfully, his energy powers helped him fight his blood lust, but his life as he knew it was over.

Thankfully, Black Panther created a special vibranium suit to help Miles Morales deal with his vampiric transformation. He fought his own transformation with a similar suit, constructed with a vibranium nano-mesh interwoven with an internal coaxial, insulated coating. The vibranium suit not only helped to control his vampire symptoms but also amplified his own bio-organic energy abilities. However, Black Panther revealed that the suit was just the first stage of the treatment plan, with intense training and rituals required back in Wakanda.

8 Ben Reilly's Second Spider-Man Suit Was High-Tech

media_23383

Peter Parker’s clone Ben Reilly took over as Spider-Man after he debuted as the Scarlet Spider during the Clone Saga. His first run as the web-slinger ended with his death, though he returned years later. Ben Reilly's best costume appeared when he started working for the Beyond Corporation. They purchased the rights to the wall-crawler's trademark in “Spider-Man Beyond.”

The Beyond Corporation designed an impressive new costume out of foam-based polymers that thickened on impact to protect Reilly further. Unlike his other costumes, the web-shooters were also upgraded and contained within the suit. Unfortunately, exposure to a quantum-shifting polymer transformed Reilly's Beyond suit, turning him into the villainous Chasm.

7 Spider-Man's Stealth Suit Made Him Nearly Invisible

Peter Parker’s resources were originally limited to cloth and thread. However, he later gained access to much better resources. Parker began working for a high-tech think tank known as Horizon Labs. The devices he created as Spider-Man helped further his scientific career. Likewise, his Horizon tech was able to improve his Spider-Man gear as well.

After encountering the new Hobgoblin’s disorienting sonic laugh, Spider-Man created a new stealth suit. It could bend light and sound waves to render it invisible or silent. It could also block sounds coming in, which proved useful against villains like Hobgoblin and The Queen. Kaine Parker later stole and modified the suit into his new Scarlet Spider costume.

6 Peter Parker Was Gifted His Advanced FF Suit

media_23385

Spider-Man lost his closest friend in the comics. Johnny Storm’s will revealed his final wishes after his death. He wanted Spider-Man to take his place in the Fantastic Four. The team restructured itself as the Future Foundation after Human Torch’s death and honored Johnny’s final request. They welcomed Spider-Man onto the Future Foundation with a brand new dynamic costume.

The black-and-white costume matched the design of the other members of the Future Foundation, though it featured a unique spider aesthetic. Reed Richards created the team’s new costumes using Unstable Molecules, which could shift their appearance. Spider-Man's FF costume could appear as his classic suit, and the team could even shift into a dark stealth suit.

J. Jonah Jameson eventually became a close ally of Spider-Man after discovering his secret identity. He then began working with the “Threats and Menaces” news website, focusing on heroes like Spider-Man. During a period when he was desperate for money, Peter Parker accepted a job from “Threats and Menaces” that came with an advanced new costume.

His new suit featured a grey and blue color scheme with rounded orange eyes. It was a prototype suit that featured 360° cameras. These cameras enhanced his natural spider-sense and allowed subscribers to stream his point of view. His “Threats and Menaces” costume was a high-tech marvel that enhanced his strength and speed, though it was fairly short-lived.

4 Spider-Man Briefly Bonded With an Alien Symbiote

symbiote-spider-man-header.jpg

One of Spider-Man’s most unique and impressive costumes was found during the first Secret Wars event. Peter Parker damaged his classic suit and replaced it with a liquid-like costume that formed over his body to become his fan-favorite black suit. Spider-Man’s new costume had several impressive capabilities, including its ability to alter appearance.

The suit could generate its own webbing and create small pocket dimensions for things like Spider-Man’s keys and camera. He eventually learned his new suit was a living alien symbiote. Spider-Man's relationship with the symbiote was strained and he eventually rejected a permanent bond. The rejected symbiote then joined with Eddie Brock to become Venom, though Peter and the symbiote would briefly rejoin in storylines like "Go Down Swinging" and Venom War.

3 Tony Stark Created The Iron Spider Armor

Peter Parker found a great mentor when he worked closely with Tony Stark/Iron Man. As a founding member of the New Avengers, Iron Man noticed traits in Spider-Man that he hoped to develop further. He also began throwing together a few ideas he had to upgrade Spider-Man’s costume.

Stark created the Iron Spider armor, which featured the same red and gold color scheme as the most powerful Iron Man armors. The suit featured a flexible armored mesh and jet boots that allowed for enhanced gliding capabilities. Stark also added three powerful arms called “waldoes.” Spider-Man abandoned the costume after he turned on Iron Man during the Civil War.

2 Parker Industries Created The Spider-Armor MK IV

One thing Doctor Octopus did better than Spider-Man was actually finishing school. He earned a doctorate and started a company called Parker Industries. Peter took over Parker Industries when he regained control of his body. This gave him access to new advancements in technology. He created a powerful new Spider-Armor that upgraded his costume to reflect his new status.

The classic costume inspired the design of the MK IV Spider-Armor. It featured a glowing spider-insignia and a dynamic new webbing pattern across the liquid nanotech suit. The suit featured multiple web-shooter configurations, miniaturized spider-drones, and stealth tech. Spider-Man could work at Iron Man’s level and wore the right suit for the job. Unfortunately, he lost the ability to repair and maintain his new suit when he also lost Parker Industries.

1 Doctor Doom Gave Spider-Man His New Arcane Armor

1 / 4

Spider-Man was given an extraordinarily important mission by Marvel's new Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom. As the new champion in the Covenant of Cyttorak, he was given eight lives to battle the eight Scions of Cyttorak. However, that wasn't the most impressive thing given to him by Doctor Doom.

Spider-Man received a powerful new suit of Arcane Armor. Visually, it featured a unique mix of Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, and Doctor Strange's costumes. However, it came with a few bonus attributes as well. The Arcane Armor allows Spider-Man to access magic and provides the information needed to further study and improve his new abilities. The Arcane Armor is also designed to protect Spider-Man from the magical energies he will encounter in his new role. It's an impressive new suit of armor, though it will likely be short-lived.
