Jacob Misiorowski opened the World Series with a record fastball
Jacob Misiorowski’s record pitch set the tone for a tense World Series opener. His first delivery to Tampa Bay’s Yandy Díaz clocked 103.5 mph, the fastest pitch by a World Series starter since tracking began in 2008.
Milwaukee went on to beat the Rays 3-2 in Game 1. Tampa Bay loaded the bases in the ninth, but Trevor Megill struck out Johnny DeLuca to end the threat. The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the series.[1]
Philadelphia spoiled the Knicks’ championship celebration
The Knicks raised their championship banner at Madison Square Garden, then watched Philadelphia spoil the party. The 76ers rallied to win 106-100 on opening night, giving their revamped lineup an immediate statement result.
Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points. Jaylen Brown added 19 in his first game with the 76ers, while LeBron James began his 24th NBA season with 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists.[2]
Detroit erased a 22-point deficit to win its opener
Detroit turned a rough start into one of opening night’s biggest comebacks, rallying from 22 points down to beat Boston. Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren scored 22 points apiece, while Duncan Robinson and Javonte Green helped fuel the turnaround.
The comeback gave the Pistons a dramatic start to the new season—and an early reminder that a big lead is no guarantee of a comfortable finish.[3]
