The beloved horror anthology series Tales from the Crypt has been over for the past 30 years, but the iconic Crypt Keeper has been resurrected. With the original voice of the rotting horror host, he will be back on TV this fall for a special celebration.
AMC Global Media has announced that the Crypt Keeper will serve as the official host of this year's "FearFest" event on AMC and AMC+. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the horror programming event in addition to the final episode of Tales from the Crypt. Kicking off on Thursday, Oct.1, the event will feature over 650 hours of iconic horror films, franchises, and new specials.
John Kassir Is Back as the Voice of the Crypt Keeper

John Kassir, who voiced the character for Tales from the Crypt, is back as the Crypt Keeper. Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead, Creepshow) also recreated the Crypt Keeper that will be seen hosting this year's "FearFest." First look images have revealed how the Crypt Keeper has retained his familiar look, but he will also have an updated design to improve his movement and personality for today’s' audiences. Nicotero directed the "FearFest" segments featuring the Crypt Keeper.
“What a great honor and privilege to re-create this iconic character and get a chance to revisit some of his clever quips and puns with John Kassir again reprising his role,” Nicotero said in a statement. “Having the chance to re-create Kevin Yagher’s amazing puppet at my studio KNB EFX and get the opportunity to ‘direct him’ in a series of FearFest spots was like going back in time and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
The Crypt Keeper Is Resurrected After 30 Years

AMC Global Media's chief marketing officer, Kim Granito, added: “FearFest has long been one of AMC’s most beloved horror traditions, and we couldn’t be happier to resurrect the Crypt Keeper as this year’s master of ‘scary-monies’ as we celebrate 30 years of FearFest. Revived by Greg Nicotero, a master of special effects and genre storytelling, the Crypt Keeper will give fans a fresh and wickedly fun gateway into our incredible horror library. We’re also proud to partner once again with Bacardi, a brand that perfectly complements FearFest and our celebration of the spirit, creativity and community of horror fandom.”
“With the iconic Bat at the heart of our brand and ‘Do What Moves You’ grounded in freedom and self-expression, BACARDÍ Rum has an authentic connection to Halloween – a moment when people are encouraged to transform, express themselves and celebrate,” continued Lisa Pfenning, Vice President of the event's sponsor, BACARDÍ in North America. “As we return for our second year as presenting sponsor of FearFest, we’re thrilled to celebrate its 30th anniversary and welcome the Crypt Keeper back into the spotlight as the ultimate ghost with the most. We’re honoring everything fans love about this horror icon while bringing his signature humor and mischievous spirit to a new generation.”
Of course, FearFest will feature marathons of Tales from the Crypt. Other programming will include showings of installments from beloved horror franchises like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Final Destination, and Insidious. Also included will be a variety of Stephen King adaptations, including both adaptations of It, as well as The Shining, Misery, and Christine. Debuting genre shows includeAMC's The Terror: Devil in Silver and AMC+'s Yaga.
