Marvel Confirms Massive Milestone For Its Bold-Swing Horror Experiment Before First Books Even Land

The new line of series involving terrifying reinterpretations of classic Marvel characters has proven to be one of the publisher's most highly anticipated initiatives in years. In fact, the early reception has been so frighteningly overwhelming that the first issues of its three premiere series have already earned a special honor.

Marvel Midnight's Debut Issues To Receive Second Printings

In the midst of the astonishing success of DC's Absolute Universe, which introduces wild, darker reinterpretations of the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more, fans could not help but compare it to the premise of Marvel's Midnight Universe, which reinterprets its own beloved heroes with an even darker tone in mind. Similarities aside, readers have expressed enough excitement over this new venture that the publisher is offering them an early special treat.

With only a few weeks before they officially emerge, Marvel Comics has announced that the introductory releases of its upcoming Midnight Line are already bound for reprints. Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and Midnight X-Men #1 will each be reanimated with a second printing on Oct. 28.

The heroes of the Marvel Universe have certainly taken on a few unsettling threats in their day, but what if these characters were the nightmare fuel themselves? For anyone who has even been curious to see that fantasy play out, the Midnight Line will definitely scratch that itch.

For instance, Midnight Spider-Man features a version of Peter Parker who plots his revenge against Oscorp for unwillingly transforming him into a revolting half-human, half-arachnid creature. Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson has compared the book, which is illustrated by ScieTronc, to classic body horror movies like David Cronenberg's 1986 adaptation of The Fly.

Marvel Midnight Promises Some Scary Superhero Stories

Midnight X-Men borrows from a familiar staple of the horror genre, vampirism, to craft a story depicting a war between mutants and mutant bloodsuckers called empyers. Jonathan Hickman, who played a pivotal role in creating the Midnight Universe, collaborates with illustrator Matteo Della Fonte on the series.

Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight Fantastic Four #1, and Midnight X-Men #1 will first begin haunting the shelves on Oct. 7, 2026.
